We know the inkjets will also have a price increase but it has not happened yet nor how much of an increase it will be.

Sub: UPDATE  - Laser Printer Toner, Copier Toner, Duplicator and Inkjet  Supplies

I have just been informed that Canon, Gestetner, HP, Lanier, Ricoh and Savin products are in very short supply. In some cases there are NONE to be had. We are, to the best of our ability, making note on the products page of supplies that we know of that are not available. Feel free to get in touch with us to see if we can tell you of what your products availability is like. Once the brand supply is gone then it may be a while till new product will show. You could be faced with having to use compatibles (if compatibles are available for your supply) until the brand supply re-surfaces. As stated below, this could be months down the road.

Sub: UPDATE  - Laser Printer Toner, Copier Toner, Duplicator and Inkjet  Supplies

I have just been informed that HP has begun raising their prices. We know that shortages still exist and from the discussions being past on to us, this could last up to a year before things become stable again. Products are coming in, very slow, very limited in quantities, so some wholesalers, we are told, have raised their prices up to 5% more across the board on all products they carry. Some products (although few at this time) are out of stock with no ETA on any replacements. It looks like things will get worse on toner supplies before they get better.

Sub: UPDATE  - Laser Printer Toner, Copier Toner, Duplicator and Inkjet  Supplies

As of today, some supplies are beginning to become almost non-existent on a few models. HP, being the leader in printers sold here in the states, has a model or so that is drying up on its stock for that model with no outlook on anything anytime soon for getting in new inventory.  We have learned that a few wholesalers are coveting the remaining stock they have and have upped their prices on their inventories. It does look like there will be a period of no supplies to be had, except for the ability of having to use compatibles. The only problem here is that not everything in a brand toner has a compatible replacement. Check with us to see if your item has any stock before they are gone.

Sub: UPDATE  - Laser Printer Toner, Copier Toner, Duplicator and Inkjet  Supplies

Just wanted to give you an update from my previous email of the toner shortages because of the Japan earthquake. Here is what I was told not 10 minutes ago. Canon began their rationing last week. Things are already becoming hard to get from Hewlett Packard. (Canon makes HP so understandable). Brother is rationing and you can bet ALL brands will be. It was stated that since Japan has had 2 more aftershocks, the 7.1 last week and the 6.1 yesterday that it has only made things worse there. If it has something to with electronics (radios, televisions, calculators, laser printers, copiers - electronics period) it most likely is made in Japan or parts for it. As of this morning, every wholesaler is going everywhere to find and get product and they are finding very little to none available.

I am not trying to begin a scare tactic but if you rely on printer supplies for your operation, and especially if you are a 24 hours operation, as some of you are, then you need to understand this is real and you may or (most likely) won’t have toner for these products (or will take a long time to get them) in the very near future. It is stated, that if there is anything in damage as it happened to be a Sharp plant in Japan after an Typhoon a few years ago, they were down for repairs to that plant for nearly a year before supplies began flowing again. Hopefully not in this case but we just don’t know any of these facts yet.

Sub: Laser Printer Toner, Copier Toner, Duplicator and Inkjet  Supplies

I have just learned from one of my distributors that due to the Earthquake, Tsunami as well as the Nuclear problems in Japan that there will be a shortage of supplies in the very near future. Since all copier and laser printer supplies and Inkjets are manufactured in Japan then there is a very good chance the United States, as well as other countries of the world, will be without supplies for a period. This all is determined by where the factory is located. At this time it is figured that if the factory is from Tokyo to the North then then chances are very slim that anything will be shipped anytime soon. From Tokyo to the South things might be Okay, but it all depends on their getting the parts needs to make the supplies. With this being said, we have already been told that Canon has begun rationing supplies. We know that this affect at least 2 companies, Canon and Hewlett Packard. this is because Canon makes HP's laser printer toner supplies, as well as bits of others. We have compiled a list of what we know and how it affects the US below.

Adler Royal - Not known where factories are located.

Apple - All Apple Supplies are re-labeled Canon supplies.

Brother - Not known where factories are located. A couple of their supplies are re-Labeled HP toners.

Compaq - See Hewlett Packard.

Canon - Already in rationing mode on some products so will be hard to get their supplies.

Copystar - Nearly all toner is re-labeled Mita toner.

Dell - Usually they are re-labeled Lexmark supplies, but will be a few Samsung.

Dex - See Xerox.

Epson - Not known where factories are located.

Genicom - Not known where factories are located.

Gestetner - Not known where factories are located.

Hewlett Packard - Laser Printer toner made by Canon. Inkjet cartridge made in Malaysia so all should be OK here.

IBM/Lexmark - Not known where factories are located.

Imagistics/Pitney Bowes - All their supplies are someone else's supplies and are modified by them to only be able to work in their machines.

JetFax - Relabeled Okidata Toner

Konica/Minolta - Not known where factories are located.

Kyocera - Nearly all toner is re-labeled Mita toner.

Lanier - Not known where factories are located.

Mita - Not known where factories are located.

Monroe - Nearly all toner is re-labeled Mita toner.

Muratec - Not known where factories are located.

NEC - Not known where factories are located.

Okidata - Not known where factories are located.

Omnifax - Relabeler of other manufactures Supplies. (Panasonic, Muratec, Sharp, etc)

Panasonic/Panafax - Not known where factories are located.

Printronix - Not known where factories are located.

Ricoh - Not known where factories are located.

Risograph - Not known where factories are located.

Samsung - Only band that is not manufactured in Japan, so should be no shortage.

Savin - Not known where factories are located.

Sharp - Not known where factories are located.

Standard Duplicating - Relabeled Gestetner and Ricoh Supplies.

Tally - Not known where factories are located.

Tektronix - See Xerox

Toshiba - Not known where factories are located.

Xerox - Not known where factories are located.

I wasn’t given a date as to when to expect the shortages to come about, but I was told that when it begins to expect these cartridges to be very difficult to be found. Once I hear that news I will let you know. I am aware that as of today that all the incoming orders are arriving okay, as they were shipped prior to the earthquake, but Canon is already beginning to rationing some of the cartridges to extend them over this time. The next orders are already known to be delayed in shipping, and for how long it will take to for them to begin their shipments again is still unknown. It could be a short time but then it could be a while due to the radiation leaks and when the plants get back into operation. In case you call and want to know the shelf life of a toner cartridge, under normal room temperature and storage it will last for 2 – 3 years, if not a little longer.

This only affects OEM brand cartridges. People that use compatibles should not be affected.
